Freshwater Bay
Popular for its magnificent views, Freshwater Bay is is ideal for a scenic day out especially when the weather is good. Although a pebble beach the water is deep and clear but bathers need to watch out for a strong undertow. At low tide visitors can walk around the coast to see spectacular caves and coves as well as rockpools full of sealife. Keep an eye on the incoming tide though as it is easy to be cut off.
The facilities at Freshwater bay are good with a hotel, cafe and ice-cream shop all situated on the front. The waves can get very strong here and in winter have been known to come up over the sea wall. In summer, however, on lookers can gaze at the beautiful coastline or watch the fishing boats. There is a gift shop situated across the road and another cafe. This Bay has its own car park and RNLI station as well as toilets and emergency telephone. Walkers can join the Tennyson trail at Freshwater Bay which takes them to the famous Tennyson monument at the top of the cliff and this area is very popular with ramblers.
