The Stenbury Trail

Walking HomeWalking Events | Signposted Trails | The Coastal Path

Heading south from Newport along the Medina River valley, this trail mostly follows footpaths to the village of Gogshill, with its olde worlde charm, thatched cottages and 15th Century church. Out of Godshill the trail climbs steeply past the ruins of Appuldurcome House to near the top of Worsley Down where there are spectacular views of the northern half of the Island - a recommended diversion. The trail then skirts the hillside before climbing to the ridge line which it follows along the length of Stenbury Down to Rew Down with fabulous views over Ventnor and the English Channel. The trail then descends to the Whitwell - Ventnor road, turn left for Ventnor.

Total Distance about 10 miles (16 km).
