The Nunwell Trail

Walking HomeWalking Events | Signposted Trails | The Coastal Path

This trail starts at Ryde St John's Station, where the Isle of Wight Steam Railway terminates. The route is up the hill to the east of the station then right along the road to a bridleway then largely via country roads and footpaths across the plain to Nunwell House and gardens, which are open to the public at certain times of the year. The trail then ascends to the top of Brading Down with spectaculars views over the Sandown/Shanklin valley below, before descending to the little village of Alverstone. Here it crosses the Bembridge Yar before turning left into Sandown, from where the electric train can be caught back to the start of the trail.

Total Distance about 10 miles (16 km)
