Sandown
Situated with Lake and Shanklin on the Island's golden coast, Sandown is the premier holiday resort. It has many hotels and guest houses and all the facilities to be expected in an English seaside town.
The beach is magnificent with soft white sand against the backdrop of Culver Cliff. The prevailing wind is south westerly so Sandown lies sheltered behind the highest downs on the Island. On the cliffs and within the old battery walls you will find Battery gardens with its flower beds and seats from where you can look out over the bay.
The esplanade is lined with bars, cafes, bingo halls and amusement arcades. At the Yaverland end of the town is a long-hole pitch and putt course plus the famous Isle of Wight Zoo housed in Granite Fort. There you will find big cats and a good reptile house and there is also a childrens area
At the beginning of the clifftop walk to Shanklin you will find Ferncliffe, originally the gardens of an old house but now a public park with an outdoor cafe between the flower beds and trees.
