Carisbrooke
Close to the west of Newport and dominated by its famous castle, lies the village of Carisbrooke. On a busy road and now expanded with modern housing estates, Carisbrooke has lost some of its charm. However, Carisbrooke Castle is one of the finest Norman castle ruins in the south of England. Its magnificent stone walls encase a world in miniature with a keep, a small museum and the famous well from which water is drawn by a donkey walking inside a wheel. (See our History page).
